Lanjik – the Pino Ciaccio Kindergarten
Lanjik, Shirak Province, around 1,800 m above sea level

The small community of Lanjik lies in western Armenia at around 1,800 metres above sea level. The old kindergarten building still bore visible traces of the 1988 earthquake – damp walls, dangerous electrical wiring, and in winter the snow lay metres deep.
The Stiftung Hilfe für Armenien originally planned to renovate the existing building. However, a detailed structural survey showed that renovation would have been too costly – so the foundation board decided to construct a completely new building. The new kindergarten has a floor area of 375 square metres, is heated by a heat pump and has a hot water system on the roof.
The kindergarten was opened in December 2021 and named in honour of long-standing board member Pino Ciaccio: the Pino Ciaccio Kindergarten.
