Contribution to the Lanjik Water Supply
Lanjik, Shirak Province, western Armenia
After building the Pino Ciaccio Kindergarten, the Stiftung Hilfe für Armenien stayed on in Lanjik – because the community in western Armenia needed further support. Water only flowed every other day, and many pipes were leaking. To avoid running short, many families filled their bathtubs on the days when water was available and stored it in barrels and drinking bottles.
The foundation built a reservoir with a capacity of around 250 cubic metres and replaced around 11 kilometres of old distribution pipes. Water meters were also installed in homes to encourage careful use of this precious resource. The foundation covered around CHF 100,000 of the project costs – the municipality paid the remainder itself, a deliberate sign of shared responsibility.
The local newspaper Schaffhauser Nachrichten reported on the project in June 2022. Board member Mike Baronian was also a guest on the regional TV channel Schaffhauser Fernsehen.
